What is Irregular Choice?
Launched in Brighton back in 1999 by designer Dan Sullivan, Irregular Choice is a cult-classic British brand that treats footwear like wearable sculpture. Sullivan grew up immersed in the 1970s London punk shoe scene through his family, so when the late '90s rolled around with its sea of boring, beige, neutral shoes, he decided to rebel. Instead of chasing fleeting high-street trends, he built a brand dedicated to pure, unapologetic individuality and creative freedom.
What makes Irregular Choice shoes so unique?
Irregular Choice is globally recognized for throwing the traditional fashion rulebook completely out the window. They've carved out a massive niche thanks to a few legendary, unmistakable trademarks:
- The Iconic "Character Heels"Instead of a standard block heel or stiletto, these shoes feature fully sculpted, 3D figurines holding you up. Think heels shaped like unicorns, swans, garden gnomes, bunny rabbits, and Disney characters.
- Over-the-Top TexturesPlain leather? Canvas? Never heard of them. A single pair of Irregular Choice shoes might mix glitter-encrusted panels, metallic faux-fur, floral upholstery fabrics, and massive velvet bows.
- Epic Pop-Culture DropsThey are famous for their highly detailed, officially licensed limited editions. They've launched massive, sold-out collections with franchises like Star Wars (featuring light-up lightsaber heels that made actual sound effects), Disney, The Muppets, and Alice in Wonderland.
- Illustrated OutsolesThe design doesn't stop at the top. The bottoms of the shoes feature vibrant, whimsical printed artwork, making them visually striking from literally every angle.
- Massive CollectibilityBecause these designs are so theatrical and produced in limited quantities, a global community treats them like fine art. It is incredibly common for collectors to buy pairs purely to display on shelves like ornaments.
